The MONOMILLE  -  Carlo Abarth's unique GT vehicle for daily use
In 1961, the ABARTH RECORD MONZA was replaced by the ABARTH 1000 BIALBERO. This no longer came from ZAGATO, but was a separate development from Carlo Abarth's design department. It was also a pure competition GT. What was more obvious than to offer ambitious sports drivers an identical car, suitable for competition and the road? In 1961, Carlo Abarth conjured up the MONOMILLE from his hat of endless ideas.

MONO means one cam
MILLE  means 1000 ccm

The car was built from 1961 to 1965. An ingenious car with a hand-crafted aluminum body on the base plate of the FIAT 600D. Depending on the gear ratio, speeds of up to 180 km/h were possible. Add to that an attractive interior and a breathtaking outfit: the eye-catcher of the early 60s was born. The contemporary test reports read like a homage to Carlo Abarth during his lifetime, they were so full of praise. As an owner of a MONOMiLLE, you acknowledged its delicate lightness paired with a sensational power-to-weight ratio for a road vehicle. Add to that pure ABARTH technology and a design that set standards for the future.

A technical work of art!
But, like all Carlo Abarth vehicles, it was at the very top of the price segment in its time.
The MONOMILLE cost 35% more in Germany than a Porsche 1600 Coupe.

Two versions of the MONOMILLE were created:
1961 - 1963: MONOMILLE SCORPIONE with round tail, built by Beccaris - also as MONOMILLE SORPIONE GT with Bialbero body and technology, but with pushrod engine and one cam
1963 - 1965: The MONOMILLE GT with the so-called ducktail, built by Sibona & Basano

The cars history:
The vehicle shown here is a MONOMILLE SCORPIONE GT from 1962.
The car was identical to the racing car, only had the 60 hp engine. It was sold as a new vehicle directly to Switzerland. All owners are documented. Its license plate in Switzerland was: 79978. The MONOMILLE was used privately and in various hill climbs in Switzerland. Finally, it ended up in a completely desolate condition at a used car dealer. From there it was sold to Piet Zwackman in the Netherlands. Piet Zwackman restored the MONOMILLE body-off. I was able to purchase it in 2008.
