What does Moretti have in common with ABARTH, you might ask yourself as an ABARTH fan. Well, the individual production of sports cars in small series was and is still a tradition in Italy. We are reminded here of the melodious names Stanguellini, Osca, Volpini, Ermini, Tarachini, Siata, Zagato, Allemano, Vignale, Bertone and whatever they are called.

From the beginning of the 1950s, the MORETTI company built mainly vehicles in the 750 class: racing and sports cars, coupés, spyders, but also saloons, station wagons and taxis. All of these were pure MORETTI developments with their own chassis or frame, self-developed engines, transmissions, rear axles and brakes. They were not FIAT derivatives. The 750 engines had one or two overhead camshafts and, with 750 cc, produced between 30 and 75 hp. In the mid-1950s, the press called Giovanni Moretti the "King of the 750s", referring to his participation in racing (Le Mans).

MORETTI cars were particularly popular in the USA. In fact, the majority of the 750 production was delivered to thr USA. ABARTH enthusiasts in the USA often also owned a MORETTI 750.

Some of the designs for MORETTI came from Giovanni Michelotti, such as the MORETTI GRAND SPORT, the COUPE 750 and the MORETTI SPYDER 750 SUPER TOURISMO shown here. As always, small Italian and French sports cars were very expensive in Europe. This MORETTI shown here was in the same price segment as the Porsche 356. Enthusiasts in the USA still treated themselves to these vehicles.

Today, every MORETTI 750, be it the ALGER-CAP-COUPE, the GRAND SPORT or the SPYDER SUPER TOURISMO, is a collector's item, that is so much rarer than the ABARTH 750 by ZAGATO or ALLEMANO.

History:
This MORETTI 750 SPYDER SUPER TOURISMO was "custom made" for Jackie McDaniel in the USA. This is proven by an owner's plaque on the dashboard, as can be found on some other MORETTIs too. The car had a Certificate of Title with the number TA 956750 (1959 -1969) in the state of California. From 1969 to 1989 it stood under a carport in Mid West City Oklahoma and was purchased there in 1989 by Dan Rohring from Oklahoma. Dan cannot remember the owner's name. From Oklahoma the car went to "Suncoast Classic Clearwater" in Ford, where the first German owner bought and imported it in 1992. In 2012 the car was added to our collection.
